Agricultural Engineering Section

The Agricultural engineering is the discipline that applies engineering science and

technology to agricultural production and processing. Agricultural Engineering courses focus

on the improvement of agricultural processing, protected cultivation and farm practices along

with the development and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment to ensure efficient

crop productivity. This involves designing and developing machinery, structures, and systems

for various aspects of agriculture, including crop production, and post-harvest handling.

Agricultural engineers smartly combine technology and engineering applications From designing

machinery, crop production techniques, protected cultivation and secondary agriculture,

agricultural engineering technology plays an instrumental role in modern agriculture by

addressing the hurpdles agriculturists and the agriculture industry as a whole face. The primary

aim of Agricultural Engineering is to promote sustainability and optimize the overall farming

landscape that serves as the backbone of the nation. The agricultural engineering technology

specialization combines engineering, biology and technology to develop and implement

solutions for the agriculture industry.

Farm Machinery, Power and Custom hiring services: Designing and improving tractors,

harvesters, and other farm equipment. This includes utilizing power sources like electric motors,

solar energy, and wind power. Farm machinery, power, and custom hiring services refer to the

use of tractors, implements, and other equipment in agriculture, often with government support

to promote mechanization for small and marginal farmers. Custom Hiring Centers (CHCs)

provide this machinery on a rental basis, making advanced technology affordable and

accessible. This approach helps farmers increase crop yields, improve efficiency, reduce labor,

and lower cultivation costs by enabling timely operations and precise resource use.

Protected cultivation and secondary agriculture: Uses structures like greenhouses to create

controlled microclimates, allowing for improved crop yield and quality by regulating

temperature, humidity, and light, while secondary agriculture encompasses activities beyond

primary farming, such as value addition, food processing, and related support services.

Agriculture processing, or secondary agriculture involves study of agriculture processing

equipment and various activities such as cleaning, sorting, drying, milling and packaging to

increase product quality, extend shelf life, reduce waste, and generate greater income for farmers

and the economy.
